Board of Governors

Governors, alongside the school and Team Lanesend, develop what the future of the school should be, help develop the plan and then support the Headteacher in implementing it.

The role of the governing board is a strategic one; its key functions are to:

• set the aims and objectives for the school
• set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
• set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
• monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
• be a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher (a critical friend)

Here at Lanesend the Governors meet as a full group on a Wednesday evening once every half term. Each Governor belongs to at least one Commissioning Group (see below) which also meets two weeks before every Full Governing Body meeting. These groups enable different areas of the school to be examined in more detail.

The members of our school are:

Kate Palfrey, Scott Raven, Karen Herbert-Duff and Jo Hunter.

Our members meet 3 times a year to discuss the strategic overview of our school.

I've lived on the island since I was 13 and love it here. I have two small children and cannot think of a better place for them to grow up. Josh is in Year 1 of Lanesend and Ben will join in Reception in 2017.I wanted to be a Governor to find out more about the school and the team and to try in my own way to contribute to the children's experience here. It's challenging but very rewarding and I hope to stay on the Board for some

I am a Community Governor who joined the Governing Body in July 2015. I’m fortunate to only work 4 days per week and now that my son has started in Reception at Lanesend, I’m free to undertake governor, and other, duties in school on Fridays. I have a long-standing
