Jo Hunter

Role: Chair of Trustees - Parent Trustee
Committee: Convenor of the Child Centred Group.
Date of appointment: 30th July 2014

I moved to the island in October 2013, my husband being an islander, promised me that this is the best place to bring our girls up. He wasn’t wrong. We have two daughters, Lyla, who is a pupil here at Lanesend Primary and Naeve, who is at Little Love Lane Preschool. I am married to Rob who went to Love Lane Primary School, Somerton Middle School and Cowes High School!

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1993 and following this achieved a Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree in 2004. I have had a variety of jobs both in the NHS and abroad, including nursing sick children on the heart unit at Southampton, rehabilitating adults following head injuries and in a busy emergency department in London. My most challenging job was as a nurse in a prison in Australia! I left my job as a Gastroenterology Advanced Nurse Practitioner at University Hospital Southampton in 2012 when we moved here. I am now a Nurse Practitioner at St Mary’s Hospital.

I became a Governor in January 2014 as I wanted to make a positive contribution to the school and support the wonderful education and opportunities that everyone here gives our children. I hope I bring the skills I have gained throughout my career to assist in the governing of Lanesend Primary. I am the nominated Safeguarding Governor and my role is to ensure the overall safety and welfare of all children who attend our school is followed in accordance with guidelines and legislation.

I am also the convenor of the Child Centred Group and it is my duty to ensure the Headteacher and her staff comply with legislation and meet the objectives that are set by the school.

I can often be found in school on a Tuesday and at the Reverend Amanda’s coffee and chat session at 9.00–10.00. I like to think that my Governing role includes acting as an Ambassador for parents and will always take any comments given to me, positive or negative, to Mrs Sice in order to have them documented and where required, dealt with.
