Starting Reception

A very big welcome to our children and families who will be joining Lanesend Primary School Reception classes in September. Thank you so much for choosing us as your school, we are very pleased you are joining our family. We are so excited about meeting you again, or for the first time if you have not visited our lovely school yet.

Due to the current uncertain circumstances, our transition programme has been adapted and will continue to evolve to ensure every child receives a personal and extensive transition and that they feel secure and happy starting school. Here is how our transition programme currently looks:

  • Welcome Pack - Towards the end of April, you will receive a welcome pack from us in the post with lots of information and forms to fill in. Please read the pack and complete the forms. You can return them to Lanesend marked, FAO: Tara Hopkinson, or keep them to return to us when school reopens.

  • Class Dojo - You will also receive an email to be added to Class Dojo, which is a free app to message staff and see what goes on at Lanesend. We will be posting regular updates on this and you can private message us, so it would really help us if you connect to it. If your email address has changed since you completed your child’s application, please email to share the correct email address with us.

  • Home Visits - We are hoping these will take place from Monday 15th June onwards. Depending on changes in current circumstances, we will respond to Government guidance and keep you updated if these can take place earlier. We will contact you via telephone to arrange a suitable date and time. Please email if you are a new family to the school and we do not have a contact telephone number for you. If it is not possible for home visits to take place, we hope to arrange a video call with children and families.

  • Family Meeting – This will take place at Lanesend Primary School on Wednesday 8th July at 6.30pm where we will fully explain the transition process.

  • Transition Days – There will be a form in your welcome pack to complete to indicate the times you wish your child to attend. At present, the transition days are planned to be:

    • Monday 13th July - Stay and play session - 1.00pm - 3.00pm (families to stay with the child)

    • Tuesday 14th July - Either 9.30am-11.30am or 12.30pm–2.30pm (without family member)

    • Wednesday 15th July - Either 9.30am-11.30am or 12.30pm–2.30pm (without family member)
