Tara Hopkinson

Unbelievably, this is my ninth year working in Reception at Lanesend Primary School; my first teaching post having completed my PGCE at Bath Spa University. Prior to this, I studied at the University of Southampton and gained my degree in English Language and Literature. I am Early Years Lead and a member of the Progression Team, with responsibility for Early Years and Transition, supporting children and their families with the move from Pre-school to ‘big’ school. I am also a member of the Isle of Wight Early Years Advisory Team and a Specialist Leader in Education working with Portswood Teaching School Alliance. In both of these roles, I am fortunate enough to visit lots of different schools and work with Reception teachers to develop their skills.

My passion for Reception and early education continues to grow, alongside my drive and determination to provide the very best first year of school for every child that joins us. I love the magic of Reception and the wonder of sharing a wealth of brand new experiences with the children and their families as they take their first steps in their learning journeys. Every moment in Reception is different and I relish the challenges and rewards that this brings. Team Lanesend is a wonderful mixture of individuals, all of whom have their own skills and talents, and I feel incredibly lucky to work in such a supportive and unique school.
